White Horse Golf Society Day 1
This year we’re playing at Hamptworth Golf Club on Monday 20th June.
Doubtless a few of the village bandits will have taken a nose around it, but for the uninitiated, most reviewers agree on two things; It’s challenging, but worth it. Here’s one golfer’s verdict:
A challenging, physically demanding course with some steep climbs at the end of each nine. There are also some long walks green to tee but the effort is well worth it. The course is heavily wooded, literally being carved out of woodland in some places.
The Blackwater River makes its presence felt on a number of holes, but mercifully only a few bunkers catch you out.
Should be an interesting day out, not least because this year there’s quite a few people vying for the infamous ‘Izal Trophy’. You know who you are!
Tickets are £40 per head, including all Golf, Coffee & Bacon Roll on arrival, the Buffet at the White Horse on return, and Prizes.
Contact Dave T or Dave V for more information.
Hamptworth is just off the A36 and a map is below. For driving directions, click the Google logo in the bottom left of the map and follow the instructions. See you there.

AA Pub Guide 0
The White Horse has been listed in the AA Recommended Pub Guide for a number of years now, and here’s what they say:
A majestic timber-framed 17th-century farmhouse inn mid-way between Winchester and Romsey. Under its old tiled roof will be found a public bar with darts and shove ha’penny, a lounge bar with comfortable seating, a restaurant, and two huge inglenook fireplaces – both always ablaze during winter. John and Gaye Armstrong have been in charge for over five years, steadily building a reputation for good food, service, ambience and reasonable prices. Typical of the carte are the Hursley Butcher’s champion sausages; pan-seared local mackerel; and apple pie with a jug of custard. The lovely garden looks across the village cricket ground on one side and a golf course on the other.
