Feedback doesn’t get better than this. 2
We don’t like to blow our own trumpet too much, after all we are English. However, this review by Jeff Sheriff, on Trip Advisor made us laugh and blush in equal measures, so we just had to share it. Enjoy!
(Second time we’ve been here after shooting in Stockbridge, and now a firm favourite.)
Upon entering was hit by the warmth and inviting atmosphere like a cuddly wall.
We were greeted at the bar by not only the bar man, but also the owner, which was a great touch, and one I agree with myself, who was a powerful chef in spotless whites and a charming smile. Like a beardless, smart looking Santa.
We had two well kept ales and a large diet coke between three of us.
Usually whilst eating in country pubs we have to put in a few disapproving stares, but instantly felt welcome here.
A bit of confusion at the till when I ordered and asked if my lamb chops could be medium rare. The bar man said they could only serve them well done.
I persevered and said, judging by the look of the kitchen, I’m sure they’d rather cook them medium.
The barman went to ask and it turned out it was fine.
We started a tab with no problems and sat down by the fire in a clean and tidy bay window sort of thing amongst the other elderly, and happy, guests.
Food arrived after ten minutes? But it may have just flown by because we were having such a pleasant time. We’d had two White Horse Burgers and the lamb chops.
Brought over by the tall and very friendly manager? He was very nice any way and engaged us in conversation and made sure we were looked after.
The lamb was divine, I really appreciate how awesome it tasted, and I wish the kitchen to know, if you could pass it on? Best I’ve had in England/The World I think?
Also, when’s the last time you got three lamb chops on a plate with lamb costing as much as it does?! Very generous.
Plates were cleared, and we paid, were bade a fond farewell and we left into the rainy day.
Hoping for our next visit.
Brilliant.
Jeff Sheriff
Thanks Jeff! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Did you know? 0
…that one of our old regulars, Mick Frampton of Mungo Jerry fame, used to hide from the police in the White Horse’s priest hole in the locals bar in the 70′s as he was under 18 and was frightened of being caught drinking!
Perhaps this is why the band recorded ‘in the summertime’ as it would have been a lot safer hiding up the chimney at that time of year.
Read more about Mick and Mungo Jerry here. And next time you come in, ask about our Priest Hole!
